Volunteer

We could not do what we do without our wonderful volunteers.

All of the initiatives and projects run by Level Trust, from the Uniform Exchange to the Child Poverty Conference, are successful because of the behind-the-scenes efforts of so many people, particularly volunteers.

If you would like to volunteer with Level Trust, there are particular roles that we are looking to fill:

Uniform Exchange Volunteers

Every child deserves to start the school day feeling confident, comfortable and ready to learn. But for many families in Luton, the cost of school uniform is a real worry. That’s where you come in.

As a Uniform Exchange volunteer, you’ll help make sure local children have the uniform they need, free of charge and without stigma. You might be sorting and checking donated items, organising stock by school and size, preparing orders for families, or welcoming parents and carers, providing support at a challenging time in their life.

You don’t need any experience, just:

  • a friendly, non-judgemental approach
  • a little time to give (we can be flexible to suit your existing schedule and commitments)
  • a willingness to be part of a supportive team

In return, you’ll:

  • see the difference you make for local children, every single week
  • meet new people and be part of a welcoming community
  • gain practical experience and skills for your CV
  • receive a full induction and ongoing support

Level Trust is proud to serve every part of Luton’s diverse community, and we welcome volunteers from all backgrounds.

Holiday Enrichment Volunteer Group Leaders

At Level Trust, we run holiday enrichment activity days for 8-12 year-olds who are affected by poverty. The activities they take part in are designed to improve their confidence and social skills and give them the fun experiences they normally miss out on.

We need enthusiastic and responsible volunteers to guide children through their amazing time on SMASH. Volunteers will lead small groups of children through each day, keeping them together, giving them encouragement, making sure they feel able to participate, and offering them pastoral support if they are having difficulties.

We need volunteers to commit to at least one full week of our Holiday Enrichment activity days which takes place throughout the school summer holidays. (Full details in the role description, below.)

Community Fundraising Volunteers

At Level Trust, we’re working towards a Luton where no child goes without. Every pound raised helps us provide the essentials that local children need to participate fully in their education and give them a fair start.

As a Community Fundraising Volunteer, you’ll help us raise vital funds and spread the word about our work. You might be organising your own fundraising event, supporting bucket collections, helping at community stalls, or encouraging local businesses, schools and faith or community groups to get behind our cause.

You don’t need any experience, just:

  • enthusiasm and a passion for making a difference
  • confidence chatting with people
  • a little time to give, whether it’s one event or a more regular commitment

In return, you’ll:

  • help tackle child poverty right here in Luton
  • meet new people and connect with your local community
  • develop skills in event planning, communication and fundraising
  • receive a full induction and ongoing support from our team

Level Trust is proud to serve every part of Luton’s diverse community, and we welcome volunteers from all backgrounds.

Kim Ansell

I run the Uniform Exchange and Learning Locker. As a mum with three children, I know what it's like trying to get everything the children need for school. You just get what they need and they grow, it breaks or they lose it! It can be really hard to find the money to replace or buy new things when there’s not much left after you’ve paid your bills. I like helping people and I get to know lots of families on my estate. I'm known as the uniform lady (!) and people say hello when I'm out with my family or walking my dog.

Kerri Porthouse

I have spent many years working within the public sector. At 18 years old, I joined the Police Force and spent a number of years policing on the front line. I then moved into education, primarily focussing on safeguarding and supporting children and young people. I have two young children myself, who keep me busy and I love to spend time outdoors exploring with them. You may also find me exercising or with my head in a book.
